DENVER — Another violent attack on the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver has been captured on video.
The video showing a man, later identified as 32-year-old Clarence Seeley, attacking people on the east end of the 16th Street Mall at Cleveland Place with a plastic PVC-type pipe was recorded Wednesday evening.
The violence on the video happened two days after police and city leaders vowed to crack down on unruly visitors to the popular pedestrian mall.
Caleb Bonham shot the video around 6:30 p.m. from an office building and and then posted it. The video has some of the most violent images from recent flare-ups along the mall.
It shows Seeley armed with the pipe, lashing out at people outside the McDonald’s. In the course of 30 seconds, Seeley is seen hitting three people with the pipe while stunned witnesses watched the scene unfold.
Bonham said he called 911 right away. He said Wednesday night he did not feel safe enough to leave his building.
Denver police said they received a call about the attack at 6:07 p.m. and officers arrived at 6:10 p.m. Police said Seeley dropped the pipe when officers arrived and he was arrested without further incident. He is being held for investigation of aggravated assault.
Police are investigating the possibility that Seeley was involved in a separate assault that occurred downtown before the Cleveland Place incident. Police did not release information on that incident because it remains under investigation.
A 35-year-old man suffered a head laceration but refused medical treatment from responding paramedics.
