LITTLETON, Colo. — A homeowner fatally shot a man who attempted to rob him during a Craigslist sale gone wrong Sunday morning, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.
The sheriff’s office received a call of a disturbance in the 5400 block of South Taft Court just after 9 a.m. Sunday, then received numerous 911 calls reporting shots fired in the same area.
Deputies found an SUV had crashed into a home down the block from where the shots were reported. The man driving the SUV had been shot and was transported to a hospital.
Deputies found the shooting took place at a residence where the homeowner had listed items for sale on Craigslist. The homeowner said two Hispanic men arrived to look at the items, then produced a gun, tied up the homeowner and robbed him, the sheriff’s office said.
The two men then left the home, with one man attempting to steal the homeowner’s vehicle and the other suspect in a 1990s gold Mustang.
The homeowner was able to free himself and confront the suspects outside, firing several shots at them in front of the house.
The driver in the Mustang fled the area, while the victim’s stolen vehicle crashed in a neighbor’s yard.
The suspect received medical attention at the scene and was transported to St. Anthony’s Central Hospital, where he died a short time later. His identity has not been released.
The sheriff’s office is still searching for the driver in the gold Mustang. He is described as being in his 40s.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office tip line at 303-271-5612 or Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
