DENVER — Police are investigating a series of overnight smash-and-grab burglaries that happened early Wednesday.

Glass windows and doors were destroyed at three stores in the Happy Canyon Shopping Center, just west of I-25 on Hampden Avenue.

A card shop, a flower shop and Starbucks were broken into around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Kendall Hall owner of a flower shop targeted by thieves, said the burglars hit two of his cash registers and took about 200 dollars in cash.

“Shakes you up because it’s so close to home,” “Here there’s 3 businesses right in the row that have had the same thing, within 10 minutes they’ve gotten hit. Just last week, there was, just between a couple blocks, a couple businesses that were hit. Even if you have a security alarm it doesn’t matter.”

6 other smash and grabs were reported in the past few weeks in the area.

Investigators from the crime lab were on scene. Police have said this series of burglaries could be related to someone looking to pay for drugs quickly.

No suspect description has been released as of Wednesday at 9:30 p.m.
