SHERIDAN, Colo. — All schools in Sheridan will be closed Thursday because suspects involved in a violent crime spree remained at large, Superintendent Michael Clough said Wednesday night.
Police are still searching for three or four suspects still on the loose after two people were shot and another person was assaulted during a carjacking Wednesday morning.
Sheridan police said the suspects were involved in a crime spree that began with a bank robbery before progressing to a carjacking and multiple shootings. One person, 28-year-old Miguel Sanders Jr., was taken into custody.
A perimeter had been set up that bordered South Federal Boulevard on the east, West Oxford Avenue on the south, South Lowell Boulevard on the west and West Mansfield Avenue on the north, but it has since been scaled back.
Officials are closing the schools to be on the safe side. Parents and children are on edge.
It began at the First Bank building at West Jewell Avenue and South Kipling Parkway in Lakewood around 10:40 a.m., police said, when a group of black male suspects locked employees in a vault before making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police said the suspects were wearing masks from the movie “Scream,” similar to those used in another Lakewood bank robbery at a US Bank at 1414 Carr St. in late September.

Several police officers from the Denver, Lakewood and Sheridan police departments were near the Sheridan Municipal Building searching for the suspects. Law enforcement from the Jefferson County and Arapahoe County sheriff’s offices as well as the Denver Fire Department were also at the scene.
