CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — A female Colorado State Patrol trooper was fatally hit on Sunday night while investigating crash on southbound Interstate 25 south of Castle Rock, authorities said.
The incident happened about 8:50 p.m. when the trooper was on the right shoulder of the interstate near mile marker 175 as she investigated a crash.
The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody.
Southbound I-25 was closed at Plum Creek Parkway and northbound lanes were closed at Tomah Road as crews investigated. The interstate reopened just before 5:30 a.m.

“Our hearts go out to the trooper,” CSP Chief Scott Hernandez said. “We’re all grieving. We’re grieving for the family of the trooper.”
The name of the trooper has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
The identity of the driver who struck the trooper has not been released.
