DENVER — As two survivors of the Aurora theater shooting await a verdict in the trial, they’re also preparing for an anniversary that’s both somber and celebratory.

Eugene and Kirstin Han were both injured in the theater shooting three years ago.

They married on July 20, 2013, the one-year anniversary of the shooting.

They’re getting ready for a very emotional time the next few days.

Closing arguments in the trial happen Tuesday, jury deliberations start Wednesday and a verdict could come any time after that.

“For us, as a family right here, what happened to us that night, we forgive him for that, but whatever the jury picks, if it is the death penalty, then you know … that’s how the system works.”

The Hans say they may not watch the jury’s decision too closely, since they’ll be planning the trip their taking for their third wedding anniversary. They’re going camping and hiking in the mountains.
