DENVER — The Rockies play their first game at Coors Field this season on Friday afternoon against the Chicago Cubs.

There will be the usual pomp and circumstance before the game and the team has said Denver police officer John Adsit will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Adsit was run over by a car while escorting protesters from East High School on East Colfax Avenue on Dec. 3.

He was critically injured and has undergone nearly a dozen surgeries. He was released from the hospital on Feb. 18.

Christopher Booker, the driver of the car, faces multiple charges, including first-degree assault and vehicular assault, in the incident.

Adsit will be accompanied at Coors Field by his wife and four children. The pregame ceremonies begin at 1:30 p.m. with first pitch at 2:10 p.m.
