DENVER — The biggest competition of the year for dogs … and their owners … is right around the corner.

A Colorado dog and her owner are proud participants in the Westminster Dog Show.

“J-Lo” is a an 8th generation Labrador show dog.

Her owner, Longmont dog trainer Susan Burke-Rose, has been showing dogs since 1972. But this is her first time taking her own dog to the big show. “The Labrador is kind of the underdog.  Although everyone has one … they don`t typically be given the ribbons for the sporting dogs,” she said.

In nearly 140 years, a Labrador has never won Westiminster. Susan is hoping J-Lo changes that.

The road to winning is obviously not an easy one. First, you have to win your prize for best breed. From there you go on to compete in your sporting group, and then comes the Best in Show competition.
