ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Gary Kubiak is officially back with the Broncos.

The team announced on its website Monday morning that Kubiak, who spent 20 seasons as a player and coach with the organization, will replace John Fox and be the Broncos’ 15th coach in their history.

“Gary Kubiak has established a track record of leadership, success and high character during his 30 seasons in the NFL,” Executive Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager John Elway said in a statement. “While there is no question he is a Bronco, what Gary has learned from his other opportunities around the league—especially in his eight seasons as a head coach—will tremendously benefit our organization.

“Having coached on three Super Bowl champions and 11 playoff teams, Gary knows what it will take to deliver another World Championship to Broncos fans. Coach Kubiak is all about winning and doing things the right way, which are values that have always been most important to the Broncos and Owner Pat Bowlen.

“We are very excited to welcome Gary, and his wife, Rhonda, back to the Denver Broncos.”

Kubiak, 53, spent 20 previous seasons with the Broncos. He was a quarterback with the team from 1983 to 1991 then was offensive coordinator from 1995 to 2005, including when the Broncos won Super Bowl titles in the 1997 and 1998 seasons.

He left the Broncos after the 2005 season, which ended with a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship Game, to become coach of the Houston Texans. He was fired after eight seasons that included two playoff appearances, the first for the organization.

He joined the Baltimore Ravens as offensive coordinator this season, which ended with a loss to the New England Patriots in the AFC Divisional round of the playoffs.

In 31 seasons as a player or coach, Kubiak has been part of 17 playoff teams, 12 division titles, eight conference championship games and six Super Bowls.
