DENVER — After getting the boot from Arapahoe County, organizers of Riot Fest announced Friday this year’s event will be held at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on Sept. 19-21.

Last week, an Arapahoe County zoning administrator denied a temporary use permit for the three-day show at May Farms in Byers.

The show, which features rock and punk acts, debuted in the state last year and was expected to draw up to 17,500 people to Byers, which has just more than 1,000 residents east of Denver.

Arapahoe County denied the permit, in part, “based upon traffic impacts and public safety concerns that would adversely impact surrounding property owners.”

On July 1, more than 200 people attended a public meeting into the permit, and residents voiced concerns about the noise, traffic and drug use surrounding the show.

Riot Fest organizers announced they are still appealing the ruling by Arapahoe County “because we know we are right.”

Tickets that were purchased when the show was still scheduled for Byers will be honored at the new location, and organizers said refunds for those who bought camping spots will be forthcoming.

Sports Authority Field at Mile High is available the weekend of Sept. 19-21 because the Broncos are out of town that weekend, playing at Seattle on Sept. 21.
