RED FEATHER LAKES, Colo. — One man was arrested and four people were injured Wednesday after a stabbing involving members of a group dedicated to achieving peace and love on earth, police said.
Larimer County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 37-year-old Norman Wheatley on an assault charge after a stabbing was reported northwest of Red Feather Lakes, LCSO reported. A total of four people were injured, and three (including Wheatley) were hospitalized.
All four people are thought to be involved with the Rainbow Family, LCSO said. The group is a loosely affiliated association of migrant people who hold regular gatherings around the country. A gathering is planned for Larimer County this summer, police said.
Citing unnamed sources, LCSO said the Larimer County gathering could be as large as 1,000 people.
“At other such gatherings in adjacent states, members of this association have been known to engage in various
criminal activities, including possession/consumption of controlled substances, theft, and fraud,” LCSO said in a statement.
Generally speaking, members of the Rainbow Family support peace, love and freedom as a consciously expressed alternative to mainstream pop culture and capitalism.
