DENVER — The appeal of a Denver Sheriff’s Office deputy who was suspended 30 days for an excessive force incident was denied Tuesday. The Career Service Board ruled against Deputy Brad Lovingier

The 12-year veteran was captured on video slamming an inmate into a wall in a courtroom. Judge Doris Burd witnessed the event and filed an internal affairs complaint with the Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy says what you see in the video isn’t the whole story.

He says the suspect had been showing signs of disruption with deputies even before entering the courtroom that day.

Denver’s Executive Director of Safety Stephanie O’Malley and Sheriff Gary Wilson released a joint statement:

“We are pleased the Career Service Hearing Officer reached what we believe is the correct result in the Brady Lovingier appeal; Lovingier’s actions impacted confidence in Denver’s Safety Agencies, and it is critical that the public knows the City will not tolerate the use of inappropriate force in any form.”
