DENVER — A Denver Sheriff’s deputy suspended for using excessive force against a shackled inmate inside a courtroom appealed his suspension Thursday.

Deputy Brad Lovingier, a 12-year veteran, was captured on video slamming an inmate into a wall in a courtroom.

An investigation led to a 30-day suspension, which he’s appealing.

The deputy says what you see in the video isn’t the whole story.

He says the suspect had been showing signs of disruption with deputies even before entering the courtroom that day.

The hearing is expected to conclude Friday.
