DENVER — Tim Tebow: Starting quarterback for the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League?

With the former Denver Broncos star now finding himself a second-string player (at best) in the NFL, it’s an option many sportswriters, coaches and even some fans are taking seriously.

When Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel put the question to Predators owner Brett Bouchy last week, he compared Tebow’s situation to that of Kurt Warner, an undrafted player who spent nearly a decade toiling away in the AFL before eventually becoming one of the NFL’s most respected QBs.

“Tim would certainly want to first exhaust his opportunities in the NFL, but we’d love to have him,” Bouchy said. “I think he would definitely improve as a quarterback in our league. Kurt Warner told me once that when he got back to the NFL after playing in the Arena League, the NFL game was like slow motion. Everything in the Arena League is just so much faster and quicker and predicated on accuracy. Whenever Tim is willing, we have a contract waiting for him to sign.”

It would no doubt be a big adjustment for Tebow, who has reiterated his ambition to start in the NFL for years. But with his current team – the New York Jets – only allowing him a handful of snaps in the 2012 season and no other teams expressing serious interest in taking him on, it might be the only move left, wrote Joe Levine of Sportsgrid.com.

“In addition to (Tebow), the Jets now have four other quarterbacks on the roster (Mark Sanchez, Greg McElroy, David Garrard, Matt Simms) and Tebow is likely third on the depth chart at best if he even makes it to camp without being released,” Levine wrote. “With … the Orlando Predators just miles from Gainesville, where Tebow is a hero after playing for the Florida Gators, he would have the opportunity to not only earn playing time but also feel appreciated by both a team and its fans.”

Other sportwriters took a dimmer view of Tebow’s chances for redemption.

“It would be a neat story to have Tebow go back, find success in the Arena League and then make his way back to the NFL,” wrote Alfie Crow of SBNation.com. “But even the words Bouchy used are harkening back to one of Tebow’s biggest flaws as a passer. (H)is biggest flaw is he’s not an accurate passer and he struggles to read the defense.

“The best bet for Tebow going forward is probably going to be biting the bullet and agreeing to change positions, giving up on playing quarterback in the NFL, but that’s easier said than done.”
