ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — No charges will be filed against Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil following his July arrest for assault with a deadly weapon in Miami, according to his Dade County attorney.

This news comes after Miami authorities publicly stated that they believed a strong case could be made against Dumervil. Meanwhile, Dumervil’s agent Marty Magid had long insisted charges would be dropped as soon as the investigation was completed.

Dumervil spoke to reporters after training camp Tuesday, calling the day’s news “a blessing.”

“The investigators took the time and got the truth out,” Dumervil said. “I’ve been confident all along and know I didn’t do anything wrong. It was a matter of being at the wrong place at the wrong time and I’m just ready for football.”

Witnesses claimed both Dumervil and his friend Andy Auguste lifted their shirts to display guns in their waistbands in a dispute over a parking spot in a Miami crowded mall. Both were arrested.

The incident received a lot of attention locally, with an electronic billboard at 58th Ave. and I-25 even being raised to suggest Dumervil “stick to the guns” that made him a star.

Dumervil said he had no reason to lash out about any of the criticism he receive.

“The way things are — it’s a media world and it is what it is,” Dumervil said. “The profession I’m in, it comes with the territory. At times, you wish that you could tell the truth and people are going to understand it. But at the same time, news is news.”

At the end of the day, Dumervil said there is really only one person he listens to: his mom.

“She was the first person I called,” Dumervil said, referring to the moments after he was released from jail. “Making that phone call, more than anything, was what I really remembered from this whole situation.”
